There are a number of landfill videos available on YouTube, which show activities on landfills some of which we have included below.
Our first video is one which we made ourselves to explain the most important features of a modern landfill and we have called it the anatomy of a landfill. You can see that it also begins to highlight some potential problems with landfills. However, these problems can largely be avoided by good landfill design and engineering.

In this landfill video (not one of ours) you get the opportunity to see a speeded up version of the landfill base being lined, as well as a lot of trucks moving very quickly indeed! Don’t worry, they are not speeding, it is the video that has been accelerated!
In this video you can clearly see activity on a landfill tipping area with heavy plant known as “compactors” at work crushing and compacting the waste to get a high density of waste into each cubic metre. There are a lot of birds scavenging on this site. This is not very good as the birds cause nuisance to neighbours, and may fly into gardens afterwards, leave droppings on lawns, and spread infection that way.
