A landfill reed bed in Scotland

The reed beds to the right of this picture clean the dirty water, called leachate which runs out of the waste in landfills. This protects the nearby burn (river) from any pollution. These reed beds are quite new, but soon they will themselves provide a great environment for many wildlife species to live.
