Leachate is the dirty water which is produced from rainfall and moisture in the waste. It must be collected and is usually pumped to a leachate treatment plant, of the sort shown here.
The light coloured circles in this picture are the tanks used for storing and treating this leachate to make it suitable for discharge to a river, or to a public sewer.
